Current
Current is a new series of polychrome aluminum wall sculpture that investigates the progressive directional flow of currents in nature—tides, air, sound, and time—to generate organic gestural, curvilinear forms. After painting the constructed aluminum surfaces, I roughly sand them, producing patterns following the contours of the curved sheets. The resulting textured surfaces are then stained with contrasting pigment, generating luminous fluctuations of color over the variously exposed and coated aluminum. The expansive painterly quality of serpentine planes within the network of supporting linear elements animates a dynamic and symbiotic relationship of opposites.
